Common Fisher & Paykel cooktop problems
Professional fisher paykel cooktop repair covers two very different technologies — CI induction surfaces (CI304 and CI365) and CG gas cooktops (CG305 and CG365) — so most diagnosis on gas is purely symptom-based, while induction uses a defined E/Er fault-code set. On a Fisher & Paykel induction cooktop the codes we see most are E2 or EH (zone overheating and shut-down), E6 (supply wiring fault), and the Er-class codes Er20, Er31, and Er47 (generic internal cooktop faults that respond to a mains reset). Gas cooktops have no electronic fault display — every gas fault is read by what you can observe: a burner that sparks but will not light, an igniter that will not stop clicking, a weak or yellow flame, or a burner that delivers uneven heat. The Series 9 CI304DTB4 and CI365PTX4 induction surfaces feature SmartZone technology that combines two adjacent zones into one large cooking area, while the CG365DWACX1 gas cooktop delivers up to a 20,000 BTU wok burner; but sensors, electrodes, and igniters still wear regardless of the cooking surface.
Our Fisher & Paykel cooktop repair process
As an independent, third-party service our experienced technicians first confirm whether the unit is a CI induction or CG gas cooktop, because the diagnosis path is completely different. On gas, the electrode, the burner cap seating, the port, and the spark module are cleaned and tested, and the natural gas or LP orifice is confirmed; on induction, the displayed E or Er code is read, the NTC sensor and cooling fan are tested, and a mains-reset is performed first for generic Er-class codes before any component is replaced. We fit Fisher & Paykel-specific parts from trusted parts suppliers, and every visit is backed by a 30-day labor warranty on the workmanship. Most repairs are completed in a single visit, and you can book a cooktop repair online at any time. The total cost depends on the diagnosis — we never quote a fixed price sight unseen.
Fisher & Paykel cooktop models we service
We service the full US Fisher & Paykel induction and gas cooktop lineup. Induction surfaces include the CI304DTB4 (30″, Series 9, 4 zones), the CI304DTTB1 (30″ Minimal with SmartZone), the CI365PTX4 (36″, Series 7, 5 zones, 2 SmartZones), and the CI365DTTB1 (36″ touchscreen Minimal). Gas cooktops include the CG365DWACX1 (36″, 5 sealed burners, 20,000 BTU wok), the CG365DNGX1_N (36″ gas-on-stainless), and the CG305DNGX1_N (30″, Series 7, 5-burner natural gas — note the 30″ gas prefix is CG305, not CG304). OR ranges with a built-in cooktop surface are covered under our range repair page. Our model directory lists the sensors, coils, electrodes, and control boards matched to each build.
Error codes and diagnostics
A Fisher & Paykel gas cooktop has no electronic fault display — every gas fault is symptom-based, read at the electrode, the burner cap, the port, and the orifice. Induction CI cooktops are the only Fisher & Paykel cooktops with stored codes, displayed as an E or Er alternating with one or two digits in the cooking-zone display: E2 or EH means a zone overheated and shut off (let it cool; service if it recurs), E6 means the cooktop is incorrectly connected to the power supply (an electrician is needed), and the Er-class codes Er20, Er31, and Er47 indicate a generic internal cooktop fault (try a mains reset of about 60 seconds first). Note that Er20/Er31/Er47 are cooktop codes and do not appear in the oven — induction ranges with OR-prefix use the same scheme for the cooking surface, while the oven cavity uses F-codes. For full code guidance see our cooktop error-code guides.
