About Fisher & Paykel cooktops.

Fisher & Paykel cooktops are drop-in cooking surfaces — CI304 and CI365 induction models with SmartZone technology and CG305 and CG365 gas cooktops — covering everything from a 30" 4-zone induction surface to a 36" 5-burner gas top.

The fisher paykel cooktops lineup

Fisher & Paykel cooktops are drop-in cooking surfaces without an oven beneath — that separates them from a freestanding range. Induction cooktops carry the CI prefix: the CI304DTB4 (30″, Series 9, 4 zones), the CI304DTTB1 (30″ Minimal with SmartZone), the CI365PTX4 (36″, Series 7, 5 zones with 2 SmartZones), and the CI365DTTB1 (36″ touchscreen Minimal). Gas cooktops carry the CG prefix: the CG305DNGX1_N (30″, Series 7, 5-burner natural gas — the 30″ gas prefix is CG305, not CG304), the CG365DNGX1_N (36″ gas-on-stainless), and the CG365DWACX1 (36″, 5 sealed burners with a 20,000 BTU wok burner). OR-prefix ranges with a built-in cooking surface are covered separately under range repair. You can review the current lineup at fisherpaykel.com/us and the units we service in our model directory.

Fisher & Paykel cooktops technologies that matter

Each cooktop technology cooks and fails differently, which is why accurate diagnosis starts with identifying the surface type. CI induction cooktops heat ferrous cookware directly through magnetic induction — a CI304 or CI365 surface stays cool to the touch while the pan heats instantly and precisely. The SmartZone feature on select models combines two adjacent zones into one large zone for a wok or griddle pan, and the touchscreen Minimal models deliver all controls through a flat glass interface. CG gas cooktops ignite sealed burners through electrode spark ignition (the same basic technology as a gas range cooktop), with flame-failure safety devices on each burner that cut gas if a flame goes out without a light. Because induction uses coils, power boards, and NTC temperature sensors while gas uses electrodes, spark modules, burner caps, and orifices, a fault on one platform requires completely different test equipment and parts from the other.

Common fisher paykel cooktops problems

Gas and induction cooktops are diagnosed on different axes. A gas CG cooktop has no fault-code display — every gas fault is read by observable symptom:

  • Burner won’t light — a clogged port, misaligned cap, fouled electrode, or gas supply issue.
  • Igniter won’t stop clicking — moisture or food debris around the electrode after cleaning.
  • Weak, yellow, or uneven flame — clogged ports, wrong NG/LP orifice, or low pressure.

An induction CI cooktop displays E or Er codes when a fault occurs: E2 / EH (zone overheated — let cool, service if recurring), E6 (supply wiring fault — electrician needed), E7 / E5 / E9 (generic internal error — try mains reset ~60 s), and the Er-class codes Er20, Er31, Er47 (generic internal cooktop fault — mains reset first; tech if it returns). For full induction code guidance, see our cooktop error-code guides.

Maintaining Fisher & Paykel cooktops

  • Keep gas burner ports and caps clean and correctly seated so they ignite cleanly.
  • Dry the electrodes and burners thoroughly after cleaning so spark ignition fires.
  • Use flat, ferrous, correctly-sized cookware on CI induction for reliable detection.
  • Keep the induction cooling vent clear so the surface does not overheat (E2/EH).
  • Clean spills promptly so they do not bake onto the glass or block gas ports.

Choosing a Fisher & Paykel cooktop

A Fisher & Paykel cooktop is chosen first by cooking technology, then by width and series. Induction CI surfaces give the fastest, most precise heat, the safest cool-touch glass, and the easiest cleanup — but they need a dedicated high-amperage circuit and ferrous cookware. The SmartZone feature on the CI304DTTB1 and CI365PTX4 models is a genuine advantage for wok cooking or large griddle pans, combining two zones into one. Gas CG surfaces give an open flame and visible power, work with any pan material, and suit cooks who want tactile knob control and instant visual feedback. Width runs from 30″ (4 zones / 5 burners) to 36″ (5 zones / 5 burners). A key distinction to confirm: if your unit has an oven directly beneath the burner surface, it is a freestanding range covered under range repair, not a cooktop. Confirming the exact CI or CG model lets a technician arrive with the correct coil, sensor, electrode, orifice, or glass panel for a lasting repair.

When to call for Fisher & Paykel cooktop repair

Induction power boards, coils, NTC sensors, and cooling fans — and gas electrodes, spark modules, burner assemblies, and glass tops — are best handled by experienced, specialist technicians who can isolate the fault and fit Fisher & Paykel-specific parts from trusted suppliers. Note the E/Er code or symptom and your model number when you book. Diagnostic visits start from $129, with a 30-day labor warranty on the workmanship; the total depends on parts and diagnosis.
