About Fisher & Paykel ranges.

Fisher & Paykel ranges are OR freestanding cookers with an oven beneath the burners — OR30 and OR36 induction, dual-fuel, and gas models across Series 9 and Series 7 — where the oven uses AeroTech™ convection and the cooktop uses a separate Er or gas diagnosis.

The fisher paykel ranges lineup

Fisher & Paykel ranges are freestanding cookers — unlike a drop-in cooktop, they include a full oven beneath the burner surface. All US freestanding ranges carry the OR prefix. Induction ranges include the OR30SCI6X1 (30″, Series 9 Classic, 4-zone induction, self-clean), OR36SCI6X1 (36″, Series 9 Classic, 5-zone induction, 2 SmartZones), and OR30SDI6X1 (30″, Series 9 Contemporary induction). Dual-fuel and gas ranges include the OR30SDG6X1 (30″, Series 9 Contemporary, 4-burner dual-fuel) and OR30SCG4X1 (30″, Series 7 Classic, 4-burner gas). Professional 48″ ranges use the RDV / RHV prefix (RDV3-485GD, RHV3-484) — there is no “OR48” range. You can review the current lineup at fisherpaykel.com/us and the units we service in our model directory.

Fisher & Paykel ranges technologies that matter

A Fisher & Paykel range is really two appliances in one body, and each half has its own technology and its own fault axis. The oven cavity is an electric convection oven regardless of whether the range is induction, dual-fuel, or gas. It uses AeroTech™ convection for even multi-rack baking and ActiveVent™ moisture control, and on self-clean models it uses pyrolytic self-cleaning at very high temperatures. The oven cavity communicates faults via the same F-code family as Fisher & Paykel wall ovens (F1 electronics bay, F2/F3 over-temperature, F4 power module, F5 comms, F7 door lock). The cooktop surface is separate: on induction ranges (OR30SCI6X1, OR36SCI6X1) it displays its own Er-class codes (Er20, Er31, Er47) in the cooking-zone display — these are cooktop codes, not oven codes. On gas ranges (OR30SCG4X1) the cooktop has no fault display — all gas burner faults are symptom-based. The dual-fuel OR30SDG6X1 has a gas cooktop and electric oven, so gas symptoms on the burners and F-codes in the oven are diagnosed independently.

Common fisher paykel ranges problems and codes

A Fisher & Paykel range is diagnosed on two independent fronts:

Oven cavity F-codes (all OR ranges): F1 (electronics bay over-temp — check cooling fan), F2 (pyrolytic over-temp — technician), F3 (normal-cooking over-temp — technician), F4 (power module — technician), F5 (clock ↔ power-module comms — reseat connector), F7 (door lock — technician). These codes appear in the oven display, not the cooktop.

Induction cooktop Er-class codes (OR30SCI6X1, OR36SCI6X1): Er20, Er31, Er47 appear in the cooking-zone display and indicate a generic internal cooktop fault. Try a ~60-second mains reset first; if the code returns, a technician tests the induction electronics. For cooktop code guidance, see our cooktop error-code guides.

Gas cooktop symptoms (OR30SCG4X1, OR30SDG6X1 cooktop surface): no fault codes — all gas burner faults are symptom-based (won’t light, clicks continuously, weak/yellow flame).

For oven code guidance, see our range error-code guides.

Maintaining Fisher & Paykel ranges

  • Keep gas burner ports and caps clean and correctly seated on gas and dual-fuel models.
  • Keep the oven cooling vents clear so F1 electronics-bay codes do not recur.
  • Wipe the oven door seal so pyrolytic self-clean does not exceed limits.
  • Use flat ferrous cookware on induction zones for reliable detection and SmartZone operation.
  • Never force the door during or after a self-clean cycle — let F7 door-lock release on its own.

Choosing a Fisher & Paykel range

Choosing an OR range starts with fuel type. An induction OR range (OR30SCI6X1 or OR36SCI6X1) gives the fastest, most precise cooktop heat and the easiest cleanup, but requires a dedicated high-amperage circuit and ferrous cookware; the SmartZone feature on the OR36SCI6X1 adds flexibility for large pans. A dual-fuel OR30SDG6X1 gives the responsiveness of gas on the cooktop and the precision of electric convection in the oven — the combination many serious bakers prefer. An all-gas OR30SCG4X1 is the simplest install (single gas supply, no heavy-gauge electric circuit beyond the controls), and suits a household that cooks intuitively by flame. Width runs from 30″ (4 zones) to 36″ (5 zones with SmartZone). A key distinction: if your cooker is a cooking surface only with no oven beneath, it is a drop-in cooktop, covered under cooktop repair. Confirming the exact OR model and fuel type lets a technician bring the right induction coil, gas electrode, oven element, RTD sensor, door lock, or control board. When to call for Fisher & Paykel range repair

Induction coils, gas electrodes and ignition systems, oven heating elements, temperature sensors, pyrolytic door locks, and control boards are best handled by experienced, specialist technicians who can read both the cooktop codes and the oven F-codes and fit Fisher & Paykel-specific parts from trusted suppliers. Note the symptom or code and your model number when you book. Diagnostic visits start from $129, with a 30-day labor warranty on the workmanship; the total depends on parts and diagnosis.
