About Fisher & Paykel refrigerators.

Fisher & Paykel refrigerators are ActiveSmart™ freestanding (RF prefix) and integrated column (RS prefix) models — from the RF170WDRUX5N Series 5 to the RS3084SLK1 Series 11 — with a numbered beep-count / binary-LED / spanner fault code scheme.

The fisher paykel refrigerators lineup

Fisher & Paykel refrigerators use the ActiveSmart™ platform and split between two body types. Freestanding RF models include the RF170WDRUX5N (17.1 cu ft, Series 5, bottom-mount with ice and water), the RF201ADX5N (36″, 20.1 cu ft French door), the RF201ADUSX5N (French door with external water dispenser), and the RF201ADJSX5 (French door with internal ice maker). Integrated column RS refrigerators include the RS3084SLK1 (30″, Series 11 integrated column fridge) and RS2484SL1 (24″, Series 9 integrated column fridge). Legacy E-series ActiveSmart™ freestanding fridges (such as the E522BRE) are also serviced. You can review the current lineup at fisherpaykel.com/us and the units we service in our model directory.

Fisher & Paykel refrigerators technologies that matter

The defining technology in all Fisher & Paykel refrigerators is ActiveSmart™ — an electronic temperature management system that uses thermistors throughout the cabinet to monitor conditions and adapt the defrost frequency to how the door is used, rather than running on a fixed timer. The result is a cabinet that holds temperature more consistently, recovers quickly after a big grocery load, and accumulates less frost than a timer-based system. When ActiveSmart™ detects a fault it communicates via a numbered code: on LED-panel models the bottom LED flashes a binary pattern (add the values of flashing LEDs — 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 — to get the code number), and on LCD-panel models a spanner symbol plus a number appears automatically. A 20-second self-test runs on every power-up or door-close; opening the door during this window can produce a transient code, so read the display after the self-test completes. The RF freestanding line adds an ice maker and water dispenser on equipped models (fill valve, ice-tray sensor, ice motor, solenoids), and the RS integrated columns add a streamlined installation for a custom kitchen.

Common fisher paykel refrigerators problems and codes

Fisher & Paykel ActiveSmart™ refrigerators use a verified numbered code scheme. The codes we see most often:

  • Code 2 — previous two defrost cycles aborted (defrost element); frost builds on the evaporator.
  • Codes 5 / 6 — freezer-compartment sensor fault (thermistor test and replace).
  • Codes 7 / 8 — evaporator sensor fault.
  • Codes 9 / 10 — fresh-food sensor fault.
  • Codes 17 / 18 — freezer-compartment fan current low / high.
  • Codes 24–27 — ice-maker system (tray sensor, timer timeout, motor current, solenoid).
  • Codes 32–34 — water-dispenser solenoid drivers.

“Fault Code 30” and “F02” are not genuine Fisher & Paykel refrigerator codes — do not act on them. For the full code table, see our refrigerator error-code guides.

Maintaining Fisher & Paykel refrigerators

  • Replace the water filter on schedule (every 6 months on equipped RF models) for clean ice and water.
  • Keep the condenser clear and the ventilation grille unblocked so the unit sheds heat.
  • Check door seals for tears or distortion and replace them before frost builds up.
  • Do not overpack — ActiveSmart™ needs airflow around the load to hold temperature.
  • Allow the 20-second self-test to complete before reading any code off the panel.

Choosing a Fisher & Paykel refrigerator

Fisher & Paykel refrigerators fit two broad planning modes: a freestanding RF model that stands in a cabinet recess like any conventional fridge, and an RS integrated column that sits flush behind a custom panel in a built-in kitchen. The RF201 French-door is the everyday workhorse — 36″ wide, 20 cu ft, with the ice and water options a family needs — and the RF170 Series 5 offers a compact, efficient bottom-mount in a smaller footprint. The RS integrated columns let a household build a true kitchen wall: a 24″ RS2484SL1 pairs with a 24″ RS wine column or a 24″ RS freezer column (RS prefix, WRUE1 suffix) for a seamless run of cold storage. Because the RF and RS platforms use different compressors, sensors, fan layouts, and ice-maker configurations, confirming the exact model prefix and series is essential before any repair. The numbered ActiveSmart™ code scheme is consistent across both platforms, so the same diagnostic approach applies — but the parts that correspond to each code vary by model. Browse our model directory to identify your refrigerator and confirm compatible parts.

When to call for Fisher & Paykel refrigerator repair

Defrost heaters, evaporator fans, thermistors, sealed-system faults, ice makers, water dispensers, and control boards are best handled by experienced, EPA-qualified specialist technicians who can read the ActiveSmart™ codes and fit Fisher & Paykel-specific parts from trusted suppliers. Note the beep-count or LCD code and your model number when you book. Diagnostic visits start from $129, with a 30-day labor warranty on the workmanship; the total depends on parts and diagnosis. Schedule Fisher & Paykel refrigerator repair, browse the refrigerator fault codes, or book an appointment online.
